Barcoding in eMaint - Introduction

No special setup is necessary for having Barcodes work with eMaint. The only requirement is to make sure your record IDs do not contain underscores on them.

The eMaint system allows you to generate and print barcode labels for Parts, Assets and Contacts. These barcodes are generated from the record IDs that each record in eMaint has (Item No, Asset ID and Contact ID).

If you have any type of barcode readers (wired or wireless) you will be able to scan those codes into any fields in eMaint. As you may already know, a Barcode reader act as translator, it reads the code printed on the label and it translates it back to a value, which in eMaint will be the record ID.

We don't really make specific recommendations on what device to buy, but there are multiple good options in the market. The most common barcoding devices are the USB scanners and the Bluetooth scanners (which can be synced with computers or mobile devices).

There are also mobile applications that will allow you to use the back camera on your mobile device as a barcode scanner.

Using barcoding technology with eMaint will allow to track and manage your barcoded records more efficiently. Here's a link to a brief demonstration of the use of barcoding technology in eMaint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sA81eH02iY

To learn everything about Barcoding in eMaint you can also consider scheduling a trip to our Experience Center in Estero, Florida, which is a space outfitted with a range of devices (many of them mobile) to enable customers to try out various eMaint features and explore how they perform and behave on devices that they may be considering for their operations. To sign up, go to our website (www.emaint.com) and click on “Experience”.
